How It Works
What is a Chinese Auction?
It's a chance to win terrific prizes while supporting the important work of the Jewish Heritage Center.
Stores, vendors and generous individuals have graciously donated goods and services to be used
as prizes. These prizes have been grouped into packages and are listed in this booklet, categorized
by their value. You may purchase tickets for any prize package that interests you. If your ticket is
drawn on the night of the Auction, you win those prizes! For your convenience, an order form has
been included at the end of this booklet. You may purchase individual tickets or take advantage of
the bonuses and discounts offered.
IMPORTANT HALACHIC NOTE:
According to most poskim (authorities of Jewish law), even a single ticket inappropriately placed
into a raffle or auction may render the entire drawing invalid. The only feasible way, therefore, to
conduct a large public auction is to rely on the fact that participation is with the understanding
that they are relying on the good faith efforts of the sponsoring organization to do all it can do to
maintain the security and integrity of the event. Should an inappropriate ticket slip by (or a paid
ticket be omitted), the participants have accepted this possibility and release the sponsoring charity
and the prize winners of any claim. Rest assured that we try to be as vigilant as possible to avoid
this from happening. Nevertheless, we ask for your understanding for anything that might slip by.
